Description:
The MA 283 SL from Piazzetta is a wood-burning, corner-mounted, convection fireplace insert with a vertical door opening that offers low fuel consumption, high efficiency and easy installation.
The doors of the Piazzetta MA 283 D S SL fireplace insert are made of solid steel profile with SCHOTT ROBAX® heat-resistant glass-ceramic installed in it. Thanks to its very low thermal expansion coefficient, this fire-resistant glass can withstand temperatures up to 760°C.
According to the company, SCHOTT glass-ceramic has been installed in 35 million fireplaces. Glass-ceramic reflects up to 35% of the heat back into the combustion chamber, thereby increasing the combustion temperature and allowing you to enjoy the view of the fire from a close distance in comfortable conditions.
To maintain the tightness of the combustion chamber, a special graphite seal is installed in the profile of the fireplace door. The door closing system allows the fireplace to remain airtight for many years.
The firebox is equipped with a reliable door lifting system.
It is virtually silent and equipped with shock absorbers for smooth operation. The simple system consists of a cable, pulley and counterweight, guaranteeing flawless operation.
A special feature of the design is the cast iron bottom of the firebox. At the bottom of the combustion chamber there is a fairly spacious removable ash pan covered with a removable cast iron grate.
Primary air is supplied to the combustion chamber through the ash pan, and the intensity of combustion is regulated by a knob located at the bottom of the firebox.
Four-sided secondary air blowing creates an air barrier that prevents soot and smoke from settling on the glass during operation of the firebox. This keeps the glass clean throughout all phases of combustion.
There is a hole on the outside of the bottom of the firebox for connecting a fresh air supply duct from outside.
The intensity of combustion is controlled by:
- controlling the damper for the chimney (increasing or decreasing the chimney draught)
- controlling the air supply to the combustion chamber (the handle is located at the bottom of the firebox)
The body of the fireplace firebox is made of heat-resistant, highly elastic boiler steel with a thickness of 3 mm. For high precision of parts, cutting is performed using a modern laser. Parts are bent on modern, automated, powerful CNC machines. The cut and bent parts are welded by a welding robot using the MAG method (automatic arc welding with a metal electrode (wire) in a protective gas environment), which guarantees high-quality and aesthetic welds.
To improve performance, Piazzetta coats the body with a specially developed heat-resistant enamel. The use of enamel increases the combustion temperature (by shielding direct thermal electromagnetic radiation) and serves as an anti-corrosion barrier for steel, thereby increasing the service life of the firebox. Thanks to the additional coating, the firebox body does not come into contact with the aggressive environment of the fire.
Most firebox manufacturers try to use steel with a thickness of 4 mm or more for reliability, but Piazzetta has taken a different approach. After conducting research on the behaviour of steel at elevated temperatures, they were able to obtain a reliable alloy that can be used even at a thickness of 3 mm in the combustion chamber, and an additional coating of heat-resistant enamel protects the steel from the aggressive environment of acids released during the combustion of wood.
In 1990, after conducting extensive research on wood combustion in fireplaces, Piazzetta developed a unique fireclay material called Aluker for lining combustion chambers.
Aluker fireclay is completely environmentally friendly and has impressive characteristics: it can withstand temperatures of up to 1400°C and remains resistant to mechanical stress.
